IQOS in the sun: what to do in case of overheating

Summer is here, you’re planning your holidays, and you want to take IQOS with you. Check out our tips to prevent your IQOS device from overheating in the sun.

 

Why you shouldn’t risk your IQOS overheating in the sun

 

The arrival of summer often also coincides with spending more time outdoors. You may forget your IQOS device when it is exposed to sunlight or near heat sources for a long time. Or you may leave the tobacco heater in your car during a trip or resting on an outdoor table.

These are just some of the situations that we advise you to avoid. Since IQOS products are electronic devices, these situations could compromise the parts that make up the devices and, in addition, could damage or deteriorate the lithium-ion battery.

For these reasons, our advice is to always store your IQOS in your pocket or bag and make sure to protect it from direct exposure to sunlight.

 

How to tell if your device has overheated

IQOS devices are innovative devices that are born from the combination of science and technology, which is why IQOS has designed features to help all adult smokers who use them to have a better experience.

For this reason, if your device has overheated, flashing white lights will help you understand that your IQOS is out of the usual temperature range.

The correct operating temperature range is between 0 °C and 40 °C for IQOS ILUMA devices. Depending on the device you use, IQOS will warn you that it is out of the temperature range:

· IQOS ILUMA Pocket Charger: the bottom light of the pocket charger flashes white.

· IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA ONE Holder: lights flash white twice.

We also suggest that you:

· Do not use, recharge or store your IQOS ILUMA in locations with high temperatures.

· Do not touch the IQOS ILUMA and/or its accessories if they become hot, spark, smoke, ignite or burn. If applicable and possible, turn off or disconnect the power supply with extreme caution.

· Do not expose your IQOS device to high humidity or direct sunlight.

In general, IQOS devices are not designed to operate outside of standard temperatures. Therefore, in the event that the device no longer turns on or does not work properly due to prolonged exposure to sunlight or other heat sources, the warranty would not cover this type of damage.

IQOS in the water? Do not dry it under the sun’s rays

In summer, in addition to avoiding exposure to the sun and heat, you should also be careful not to get your IQOS device wet or submerge it in water. In the event that the device inadvertently ends up in the water or gets in contact with liquids, in order to avoid more serious damage:

· do not try to turn on the IQOS device if it is wet;

· let the tobacco heater dry away from heat sources and direct sunlight; and

· do not insert external objects such as cloths or tissues into it.

All you have to do is let the device dry in a sheltered area and, only after a thorough check, try to turn it on and see whether it works.

Again, if your device no longer turns on or does not work properly after contact with water, the warranty would not cover this type of damage. However, if you have registered your IQOS device on the IQOS website, you may be eligible for a free device replacement and an extended warranty that covers your device against accidental damage.
