Why IQOS is not an e-cigarette.
More and more adult smokers are switching to smoke-free alternatives to cigarettes – for example to IQOS or e-cigarettes. Are both alternatives the same thing? No, they aren’t. Although IQOS and e-cigarettes have a few things in common, they are different in some key ways. But let’s start from the beginning:
While the composition of e-cigarette emissions varies by brand, clear scientific conclusions can be made for IQOS: IQOS emits 95% less harmful chemical components compared to cigarettes.*
Important information: It does not necessarily equal a 95% reduction in risk. IQOS is not risk-free.
*"95% less" represents the average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to the smoke of a reference cigarette (3R4F). See Important Information on iqos.com.
